ANNOUNCING: SPICY x Meat Market

A community collaboration.

Hey SPICY family!

We’d like to formally announce our SPICY Summer ’18 partnership with the Meat Market, a safe space selling unique vintage and sustainable goods in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Meat Market is a provider in the community for progressive programming, recycled unique clothing, and good, solid energy. We’re honored to be partnering with them in not only the form of programming, but in the form of support.

This summer Meat Market is also home to Bedstuy Flea, a newly curated inter-generational shopping experience. Every Saturday and Sunday; patrons will discover vendors and brands from across the New York tri-state area. The flea will also feature DJ sets, vendors of sustainable goods, eclectic vintage and handmade items, jewelry, wellness products, food, arts and crafts, wine, and wares from the five boroughs and beyond.

Bedstuy Flea is an initiative founded by Kemba Bloodworth, owner of the Meat Market. Bloodworth states, “by creating Bedstuy Flea our entire community can actively support a burgeoning small business corridor while financially supporting organizations that have inclusive visions for sustainability, LGBTQIA rights and equality for all”.

The eight week series will donate a portion of proceeds made from vendor participation to support  the Audre Lorde Project, NAACP, and Peace Boat – all community based organizations that make a significant difference. The Audre Lorde Project is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. Peace Boat US  works to build a culture of peace around the world by connecting people across borders and creating opportunities for learning, activism and cooperation. They achieve this through programs in which people from the US and around the world participate in voyages onboard the Peace Boat. Their Japan-based partner organization and one of the most unique and creative peace-building initiatives in the world.

Attendees should expect an extraordinary interactive experience while exploring Bedstuy Flea surrounded by fellow global citizens, residents, families, artists, musicians, influencers, bloggers, and more.

SPICY will be at Meat Market throughout the summer, whether we’re shopping for candles made by women of color at the Flea on Saturday, or searching for crystals at Meat Market on a Tuesday. So come out, let’s chill, and support black-owned local business at the same time. See you at 380 Tompkins Avenue!
